About the event

With guidance from flint knapper James, you will create a variety of stone tools on a journey through time, learning the techniques used in the Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic ages. Following the evolution of the genus Homo, you will be introduced to the tools and techniques used to produce the Hand Axe, Blade Core and Arrowhead.

Beginning in the Paleolithic Age (~3.3 million years ago), you will be shown the techniques of the Oldowan and Acheulean stone tool industries, and have a chance to try your hand at creating humanity's longest used tool – the Hand Axe. The second part of the lesson will find you in the Mesolithic Age (~10,000 years ago), where you will discover stone blade production techniques and tools.  Finally moving into the Neolithic Age, you will be taught pressure flaking techniques and be shown how to make an arrowhead.
